A press conference was held in Edirne for promotion of the strategic project implemented under the Interreg IPA Bulgaria-Türkiye Programme for the period 2021-2027 under the policy “A Safer and More Secure Cross-border Cooperation Area”. During the press conference organized by the Edirne Governorship, one of the beneficiaries of the project, the project was introduced and members of the press were informed about the activities to be implemented under the project
The Interreg IPA Bulgaria-Türkiye Programme has been running since 2003 and for the first time a strategic project is being implemented to develop cooperation between Bulgaria and Türkiye in the field of border management. The project titled “Strengthening the Cooperation Capacity of The Police Force in The Field of Migration Management in Haskovo, Burgas And Yambol Administrative Regions and Edirne and Kırklareli Provinces for a Safer and More Secure Europe”, will focus on the development of the capacities and professional skills of the law enforcement officers working in the area, in the fields of migration management. The project also aims to train law enforcement staff in Bulgaria, and both law enforcement staff and customs enforcement officers who participate in activities to be carried out in customs areas in Türkiye.
On the Turkish side of the project, the partners are Edirne and Kırklareli Governorships, while on the Bulgarian side the lead partner of the project is the Burgas Regional Administration of the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior, and the other Bulgarian partners are Haskovo Regional Administration and Yambol Regional Administration.
The signing ceremony of the project took place last year in Burgas, hosted by the Managing Authority of the Programme, Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works of the Republic of Bulgaria
