Artificial reefs as a replica of historical artefact was submerged in Enez, Edirne on November 27, 2019 as activity of the Project titled TREASURE, project no.371 conducted by the Enez District Governorship under Black Sea Basin CBC Programme for creation of an underwater museum.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs H.E. Mr. Faruk Kaymakcı participated in the ceremony and dived with the officials. Representatives of different institutions from Turkey such as Turkish Coast Guard Command, Enez Governorship, Enez Municipality, Edirne Provincial Directorate of Culture and Turizm and İstanbul University participated in the ceremony as well.
Enez is aimed to become a center of attraction for diving tourism with the reproductions of the statues found in the archaeological excavations in Enez and the underwater museum created by placing the blocks in the form of the main gate of Enez Castle at a depth of 18 meters. Additionally, with the project, a port with an area of 1500 m2 is planned to be constructed near Enez, which is expected to become a water sports training center after the renovations.
