Interreg IPA Bulgaria-Türkiye Programme Continues Preparations for Combating Forest Fires, Floods and Landslides

An online meeting was held with the Turkish potential beneficiaries of the prospective strategic project under the objective “A Europe Closer to its Citizens” within the frame work of Interreg IPA Bulgaria-Türkiye Programme 2021-2027.

An online meeting was held chaired by Şebnem Sözer, Head of Department for Cross-border Cooperation of the Directorate for EU Affairs, the National Authority of the Programme, with the participation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry,General Directorate of State Hydraulic (DSİ) and Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD). 

The status of the strategic project, which aims at measures to be taken in combating forest fires, floods and landslides within the scope of climate change adaptation measures and whose designing phase is ongoing, was discussed at the meeting. Programme experts from the Cross-border Cooperation Department of the Directorate for EU Affairs provided guidance on the project development. Opportunities for synergies between the programmes were also discussed.

Related institutions form Edirne and Kırklareli in Türkiye and Haskovo, Yambol and Burgas administrative regions from Bulgaria are involved in the project, which aims to combat forest fires, floods and landslides caused by climate change in the Programme region.
