Second Phase of Joint Trainings of the Strategic Project Joining for Safer Borders of the Interreg IPA Bulgaria-Türkiye Programme

The second of the joint trainings for the partners of the strategic project implemented under the Interreg IPA Bulgaria-Türkiye Programme was held in Burgas. The trainings were conducted with the participation of representatives of law enforcement agencies in the programme region.

The trainings held within the scope of the  Project of Joining for Safer Borders started with the opening remarks of Nalyan Gyudzhen, Head of the Joint Secretariat of the Programme, Vladimir Krumov, Governor of Burgas Region and Senior Commissioner Vladimir Marinov, Director of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior – Burgas. Deputy Governors of Edirne and Kırklareli Provinces Sıdkı Zehin and Dr. Yusuf Güler also participated in the opening ceremony.

The training for Turkish and Bulgarian law enforcement officers was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Vanya Stamatova from the Center for Legal Studies at Burgas Free University. The training focused on the legal framework on illegal migration crimes; current trends in illegal migration activities; organizational, tactical and follow-up actions undertaken by law enforcement agencies and examples. The joint trainings in the project aimed to further strengthen the coordination of law enforcement agencies in the cross-border region of both countries in the fight against illegal migration, as well as to share experiences and best practices in institutional cooperation for the implementation of operational activities.

Within the scope of the project, under the activity of trainings to improve the capabilities of law enforcement agencies to function effectively, two more joint trainings will also be provided, targeting communication training and improvement of language skills.
